It is not unusual for children to be exploited in the production of toys, video games and other products that are sold online.
These activities often take place under conditions that are far more exploitative than those in the mainstream.
While these activities may not be illegal, they are not considered to be acceptable, said David Rachid, director of the Child Rights Centre at the UK’s University of Bristol.
“What is unacceptable is people using children to sell goods that could potentially harm them or their families,” Rachids told Al Jazeera.
“Children have been exploited in this way in all sorts of industries and they’re not just toys, they’re anything that’s potentially harmful.”
In a statement, Lego said that it “takes the safety of its users very seriously and takes every opportunity to check the safety and security of all our products, which is why Lego products are regularly tested by independent testing organisations.”
According to Lego, the safety is “always our top priority”.
The company also said that Lego products do not contain toxic substances or materials that could cause adverse health effects.
However, the Lego Foundation said in a statement that “we are currently in the process of conducting a review into Lego products and the use of children as workers”.
Rachidis believes that the Lego group is being disingenuous.
“There are companies that make toys that can actually be harmful and Lego is one of them,” he said.
“I’m not saying that it’s the only company, but I am saying that Lego is a part of a large industry.
There are lots of companies who make toys with very harmful effects on children.”
The Children’s Aid Society (CAS) has also raised concerns about Lego products.
The organisation’s director, Simon Evans, told Al-Jazeera that “the way that Lego toys are marketed and marketed to children is not good for children”.
“It’s the same kind of industry that does not care about children, but it’s very powerful,” he added.
“Lego toys are used by people who are very abusive, so they can be quite abusive.
There is a very big problem with that.”
Evans also criticised Lego for using children as part of its marketing campaign.
“It should not be selling toys that are being used by child labourers to do the work,” he told Al Jazeera.
“This is the wrong way to go about it.” According
